Welcome to the world of Debbie.lee Miszaniec:
One Life Fine Art:
Is the colourful umbrella that shelters the activities - painting, exhibition, teaching and commissions - of Canadian painter Debbie.lee Miszaniec.
Debbie.lee Miszaniec:
“Art comes from life, art is what we make of it. Life is precious, ubiquitous, beautiful, ugly, cruel and caring, inspiring and terrifying, all of that and more, that is life. It is the vision of the artist that chooses the meaning of life, both what we take from it and give to it.”
Canadian artist Debbie.lee Miszaniec began building a vision of art and life over a decade prior to receiving her degree from the Alberta College of Art & Design in 2008. Called an iconoclast, and regarded as a gifted painter and colourist, her paintings, whether exploring quirks and artifacts of contemporary culture, celebrating the Canadian landscape, or documenting the uniqueness of the individual, inspire joy, mirth, and reflection.
The daughter of a painter and relative of the Dutch master, Rembrandt, Debbie.lee Miszaniec demonstrated a keen interest and ability in painting early on. Raised in the Canadian city of Calgary, nestled in the heart of oil and cattle country at the foot of the Rocky mountains, the artist is inspired both by the majestic natural surroundings and by the rugged individualism that characterizes a city which celebrates it’s pioneer roots each year with the “Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth,” the Calgary Stampede. She translates this inspiration into paintings that celebrate personal histories, communicate the joy of being alive in the world, and in paintings which play with culturally significant objects and narratives, contributing bold humour and fresh perspectives to time-tested subjects.
“The thing about being an artist is, you really are a pioneer; you have got to be a little dissatisfied with the status quo to go out and create something new. You have to be stubborn and believe in the value of your experience, your personal perspective, to make art in a world that tries to sell you on conformity.”
Debbie.lee Miszaniec’s Re:Creation paintings feature altered-narratives of creation mythology as stunningly brilliant pop coloured remakes of established archetypes, while her portraits utilize old-master techniques to create unconventional biographic essays, and her impressionistic landscapes communicate a moment pregnant with emotion and reflection from artist to viewer. In common to all her work is a celebration of who we are and our place in the world. Miszaniec’s command of colour, composition, light and form are so eloquent that it is difficult to walk away without a new appreciation of the world around us in all its complexity.
